Ahmet Mithat Efendi ilk başta bu eserin böyle genç birinin elinden çıktığına inanamamıştı fakat karşısındaki Gürpınar'ın gözyaşlarını görünce ona ikna olmuş, hikayedeki mizahi üslubu övmüş ve yazarın gelecekteki başarılarını öngörmüştü.Şatırzade Şöhret Bey dış görünüşüne fazlasıyla önem veren züppe bir insandır.
